Enrico Dalcanale

Who I am

Enrico Dalcanale graduated in Industrial Chemistry (cum laude) at the University of Bologna in 1981. After working as a research scientist at the Donegani Research Institute of Montedison in Novara from 1982 to 1990, he joined the Faculty of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Parma, where he is currently a Full Professor in Industrial Chemistry. In 1985-86 he spent a sabbatical year in the group of D. J. Cram (Nobel Laureate 1987) at UCLA. In 2004 he was been visiting professor at Naval Research Laboratory (Washington DC, USA). He is the Director of the CIM (Centro Interdipartimentale di Misure) at the University of Parma. For his work in supramolecular materials, he received the Federchimica Prize in 1997, the Research Prize from the Italian Chemical Society in 2009, the Medaglia Pino in 2017, the AIS lectureship in Chemistry from the University of Texas in 2018, and the prestigious Izatt-Christensen award in 2024. He has published over 200 research papers, 16 reviews, and 23 patents. He presented the results of his research in over 110 research lectures at conferences and invited seminars worldwide. Enrico Dalcanle's group research profile is defined by the supramolecular approach to materials science which privileges molecular recognition and self-assembly as operating tools. The major fields of activity have been responsive surfaces, supramolecular polymers, and sensors.
